New Yorkers-DO NOT MOVE TO FLORIDA!!!!!
Star Rating - 8/30/2008
I have lived in West Palm Beach for a year and moved here from NY state. All you New Yorkers: DO NOT MOVE HERE!! Call this fair warning. They hate us here and make that known everywhere you go. The workplace is a joke with pays that are obscene. I was making 45.00 an hour on Long Island but was offered 12.00 for the same job. This is an "At Will" work state. They fire and hire workers in a seemingly indiscriminate way higgledeepiggledee without fair warning or within reason. Permanent jobs are almost nonexistent. This is a hustler's state.

In addition make no mistake about it this is a racist, homophobic, sexist part of the world. Blacks still live a segregated life here and are treated more than badly. The treatment is both subtle and blatant.

Crime is very high here although I have not run into any of it personally. People in houses have had problems with home invasion and theft in my neighborhood.

Security companies are made up of mostly foreign nationals and immigrants. Not a secure place to live.

The water here has had several boil water notices and fecal material has been found in it. The place is run like one of the islands. It really should be kicked out of the US and made a territory instead of a state.

I have lived in West Palm Beach my entire life. Our city is not racist and further more homophobic this is Fla for Christ sake homophobic? Ha! You are obviously the homophobic in this. Blacks do not live a segregated life, I see blacks living in all areas of the county including Loxahatchee. Do you know what Loxahatchee is? Well i grew up there back in the day its homes on acres due to agriculture where the country folk lived in today society anyone is free to live where they want. The area you may be specifying that blacks live segregated may be City of WPB and i will have you know most of the families whom live there i have generations who lived there and homes passed down to family members so you see its by choice, and as my choice being a white female who was raised in agriculture happens to live in the city of wpb and yes i may be a minority but there is nothing wrong with the neighborhood itself or the people if you give them half the chance or the respect is mutual! Crime is very high? Isn't this everywhere you go? In the city yes at times it is to be expected no different than NYC. Security companies made up of immigrants, Im sorry but isn't this America land of the free? I will have you know Fla does not discriminate in the ways you perceive it and yes over the past few years since Katrina and other storms Fla population has grown but reasoning would be because they had to leave there homes and areas and start over. So if they have the experience and knowledge to work in the industry of security or any other type of job they are free to work! perhaps you are jealous because they landed themselves a "permanent job" unlike you. As for the pay scale yes perhaps in some jobs it is a little lower, but stop and think about this. Our homes, apartments and cost of living is much cheaper than Long Island or New York and yes i know this i have been there pkenty and have family who lived there. As for the water boil issue it happens at times but just so you know. The City of WPB has come a long way since you were here and there is a whole new entire water treatment plant, Not the one you are referring to that was bulit in the late 1800s when WPB became WPB.Like any other place in the world you must check out your surroundings and area before you jump into anything or make any assumptions. I think you should be kicked out of the US not our state. For those of you looking for homes in the area or questioning about our area. You live where you can afford it. Just stay out of City of Lake Worth their utilities are quite expensive and although near the beach there are other places near the beach. I would suggest for palm beach county. Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, Western Lake Worth ( west of Jog Rd) TO BE EXACT. Lantana, City of WPB, Boynton West, Delray, Boca Raton and Parts of West Palm Beach not to be confused with City of WPB (Northwood Hills)Loxahatchee, Royal Palm Beach and the Acreage. Don't listen to this maniac uptop, Oh another thing we don't hate New Yorkers we don't like their attitudes of thinking their better than everyone else and that they take presidence over anybody else. Florida may be a hustle but we believe in mutual respect and if you lack it, you wont get it! I have met plenty of nice people and Rude people from New York and its just a matter of how you are as a person. Now that all being said.. Yes you will run into non-english speaking people and it irritates everyone whether from here or not. Yes it would be nice if everyone spoke english, However we are very culturally diverse and all in all its a great way to be. There is plenty to do in florida whether 5mins from your house or all over the state.Come on down and see for yourself, And if you make it to WPB check out City Place,Lion Country Safari, Norton Art Gallery, Fishing, Sun Bathing, Beaches, Boating at Peanut Island lots of fun and sun here...best part NO SNOW! yes Hurricane season but hey look at it this way, Better to have a storm you can prepare for than an earthquake lol..

You're talking about prejudice and racism and you are the first that discriminates against people living on islands that are territory of the United States. You should first consider coming or live here to be able to give an intelligent opinion.
